The wisdom teeth are the third molars. Normally there are three permanent molars that develop in each quarter of the mouth. Wisdom teeth usually try to grow in between the ages of 18 and 20. Surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth is the removal of impacted third molars. For this reason, many dentists recommend removing impacted wisdom teeth to prevent potential problems.
